RESCUE OPERATION: What did you do to help others Wake-Up?
by 00DAD inplease share anything--whatever facts, methods, ideas, etc.--that you found successful in helping other family members or friends to "wake-up" and leave jws.
also, include anythings that you found didn't work or even backfired.
i'm particularly interested in how you were able to reach family members that initially shunned you out of mis-guided loyalty due to wt indoctrination.

For the love of everything holy - when will some people stop thinking every post is about them?
At least it helps me work on my true humanity, understanding, and tolerance.
It's understanding that makes it possible for people like us to tolerate a person like yourself.

The best action that helped me was ... nothing. Yep those that said nothing - but lived their lives in a way that completely broke down the myth that JWs claim about ones who leave.
Observing some relatives of mine over a period of years that had left the org and ALL religious belief systems, I was most impressed by their humble, happy, and successful life. They never once preached their agnosticism/athiesm. They didn't claim to have THE TRUTH about Christ or Allah or any other ancient legend. They left prior to Ray Franz and never bothered to read his books or keep up with any others that left the org later. They simply walked away, and lived their life. They worked hard in a number of charities and careers - made money but were generous and frugal at the same time. Never criticized the JWs when the JW family tried to preach to them (and it seemed to happen multiple times year after year), but still respectfully defended their own positions.
Their immediate family was closer than any religious family I'd ever observed and not filled with problems that seemed to plague many of the JWs and religously pious. They enjoyed animals, travel, education, science, history, movies, and many hobbies that kept their minds sound and in the present.
And one day I looked around at not just my relatives, but many others I had known over the years that had left the org. The majority of the ones that had left dogmatic religious piousness behind, were living lives that were far more successful than those that still clinged to judeo-christian mythology or even the JWs-runied-my-life attitude. You won't find many on forums like this because they've moved on pretty quick. I hope to join them one day. If I'm still here multiple years from now spouting out dogmatic doctrine on whatever my beliefs are at the time, then it will have been a sad journey, one not for any to follow.
But for the many silent ones that skipped this step altogether and got on with their life, all while leaving superstitious dogma behind - you've done more for real truth than anyone I've ever seen here. I look forward to joining you soon, and from what those that know me have told me recently, they've never seen me happier. Amazing what can happen when you leave, not only a high control group behind, but religous mythology altogether. Live that life and others are sure to be inspired and be happy - anything else, especially religously dogmatic, you might be looking at pushing away observing JWs - because that's what would've happened to me had I only seen those that went the Jesus freak route. Thank god enough people took a more balanced route - they'll be the ones that continue to set the post-JW standard for living the best life, IMHO.
I'd say I hope this helps, but I know it works for sure - so no need for faith on this one.

Wouldn't the predators on the ark have eaten everything by the time the 40 days was over?
by highdose inlet say noah did manage to get all the species into the ark... about half of them would have been predators and the other half natural prey.. are we going to belive that they went without eating for 40 days and nights?
or the ridiculous theory as the wt would have it that noah fed them nice tasty bales of straw which they happily munched on?.
and even if one of these two exhuses were true, when the animals were let out of the ark into a world now deverstated by a flood, then wouldn't they have continued eating eachother???

Silly TD, always has to ruin people's emotional attachment to ancient myths by posting facts.

How did you tell your mate that .....
by stuckinamovement inyou no longer believed that the watchtower organization was the truth, and that you were no longer going to go to the meetings or service?.
and a followup question... what was the response?.

If I had it to do over again, the one thing I would have focused on is a meticulous plan of activities that involved skipping meetings and service. I would have started out a couple a month and then gradually moved it up. I would have tried to find the things that she was passionate about and had family outings regularly at those events. Also I would have tried to make sure that at least one regular activity involved meeting new people. Perhaps a volunteer organization that the whole family could participate in. It would be lots of fun and educational at the same time. Life enriching - and anything but boring.
I was so focused on myself and feeling cheated that I dropped the ball on that opportunity, although, I still have some occassions to start slowly integrating such ideas back in our life. But you've been patient for a long time, and I think it's paid off.
Once she sees that LIFE and LIVING are the answers to that infamously misquoted question "where else will we go?" - She'll have figured it out herself without having to be told. It will be her own realization. You will have showed her the way, but not forced it upon her. So it will be her discovery, and that is when it will stick.
Also, even on times that she still goes to the meetings - it's important that you too do something productive and fun. If she comes home and gets the impression that you've been spending time thinking about what a waste meetings are, and maybe sees you bitter and pissed, then it will be negative. (I know from experience) but if she finds that you're happy because your kids had fun at a softball game or you reached a new goal in your work-out, or helped someone in hospice, etc. etc. then she'll see that this "life" thing that you're doing is working. Well, that's my 2 cents buddy, and it's just as much for me as it is for you ... ;)
OH PS - one saturday night a month, a surprise romantic overnight evening somewhere; will guarantee an extraordinary positive experience for both of you , with a skipped sunday meeting to boot.

Why Won't They Carbon Date This?
by Perry in"for the first time in human history a dinosaur fossil is presenting us with the opportunity to see what a living dinosaur looked like.
in 2001 a field research team unearthed the worlds most complete dinosaur fossil, a brachylophosaurus nicknamed leonardo.
this incredible dinosaur has all of its skin covering its body, missing only a bit on the head and tail.

When I read fundies like Perry trying to argue science and valid research with Leolaia - I think of this girl:
Leolaia FTW every time. This thread is done now. Perry lost. Time to move on.

1874, 1914 and 1943
by TD ina persistent meme that floats around on jw related internet forums holds that christ's second coming was moved forward 40 years (i.e.
from 1874 to 1914) in the year 1943.
(this appears to be based primarily on a statment in the book god's kingdom of a thousand years has approached on page 209 and to a lesser degree, a footnote at the bottom of page 133 of the publication jehovah's witnesses - proclaimers of god's kingdom.).

I feel sorry for DJ -
He can't have any family close to him, no way they would put up with the kind of time he spends here.
Nobody in the kingdom halls like him.
He certainly makes a fool of himself here.
No way would anybody in his professed legal career like him, much less respect him.
I think we need to do something for him. I say we all chip in and and buy him this:

just save every other seat!!!
by oompa ini was just reading a funny thread posted by fallen_princess about stupid jw directives and something about seat saving came up....it reminded me of how i foiled the crime of seat saving at conventions....i would just save every other seat and it usually worked saving every third seat....i mean who walks in and picks a seat where you have to sit next to sombody else??
?...............i loved breaking rules i guess..................oompa.

Pregnant women with small children were begging for seats.
I call BS on this!
I know there's the rush in the morning, and the seat saving thing is a joke, - but Sorry -just trying to keep it real. I've been to conventions worldwide and the highlighted statement is just pure exaggeration.
